The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), for grades 9 and 10 is a course of study of the Council for The Indian School Certificate Examinations or CISCE.

The curriculum for the ICSE is broadly divided into three groups. Each student entering Class 9 opts for six subjects from these three groups for a two year period of study till class 10. At the end of class 10, the student has to appear for an examination in the subjects he or she has studied.

In the Sacred Heart School, a student can opt for the Science or the commerce stream

Who should choose commerce stream?

  1. Any student who is sure that he/she will pursue humanities or commerce in Grade XI & XII.
  2. Any student who is sure that he/she will not pursue science in Grade XI & XII.

Who should choose science stream?

  1. Any student who plans to pursue Science in grade XI & XII
  2. Any student who plans to pursue Engineering or Medicine after XII.

Is science better than commerce?

  1. In colleges and school admissions, no discrimination is made if a student has studied Commerce in Grade IX & X. The possibility of scoring better marks exists in the commerce stream as the burden of three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) is replaced with single subject- Commercial studies.
  2. Mathematics is still retained as a core subject in the commerce stream which helps a student in Grade XI & XII.
