Opportunities often come when we least expect them, and for me, this journey began when my dean informed me about an opening. Soon after, my college placement cell posted the vacancy at Sacred Heart School, Siliguri, and I decided to apply. After going through the interview process, I was thrilled to be selected for the role.
Having worked as a part-time tutor for over five years, I’ve always enjoyed connecting with students. This opportunity excited me even more because it allowed me to apply my learning from my undergraduate degree while continuing to engage with students in a meaningful way. Joining a reputed residential school like Sacred Heart School made the experience even more rewarding.
First Impressions & Initial Challenges
The first day brought a mix of emotions—I was both excited and nervous. A new workplace, an entirely new set of people, and the weight of stepping into my first official job filled my mind with questions. Would everyone be welcoming? How quickly would I adapt? Despite the initial nerves, I was eager to embrace this experience.
To my relief, the staff and students at Sacred Heart School were incredibly welcoming. As a fresher, I had always heard that new employees take time to adjust, and being one of the youngest members in the workplace added a layer of intimidation. However, my colleagues made an effort to include me in conversations and breaks, which helped me feel comfortable and valued.
The initial days were more about observation and understanding. I wasn’t immediately assigned difficult tasks, allowing me time to absorb the workflow. Gradually, I was given responsibilities, and while I did face some challenges, I was fortunate to have supportive colleagues who guided me whenever needed.
Daily Responsibilities & Learning Experience
As part of my role at Sacred Heart School, I handle:
Admission-related phone calls
Managing the school’s social media platforms
Providing feedback and recommendations on various matters
This blend of administrative work and digital engagement has given me a well-rounded learning experience.
In just a few days, I have learned a lot:
Communicating with parents and students both in person and over calls
Scheduling tasks efficiently and ensuring timely completion
Using tools like Google Sheets and Excel for organizing data and operations
Understanding key aspects of social media management and digital reach
Gaining real-world insights into marketing strategies and their practical application
Each day presents new opportunities to enhance my skills, and I can already see my progress in handling responsibilities with greater confidence.
Memorable Experiences & Personal Growth
One of the most unforgettable moments so far has been reconnecting with my middle school teacher—not as a student, but as a colleague. It’s not every day that you get to work alongside someone who once taught you, and this experience will always hold a special place in my heart.
Although it has only been a few days, I can already see significant personal growth. From scheduling and prioritizing tasks to improving my communication skills, this job has given me the push I needed to step out of my comfort zone. Speaking with parents and students daily has enhanced my confidence, making me more articulate and composed in conversations.
Future Goals & Conclusion
This role aligns perfectly with my long-term interests. I’ve always been passionate about school administration, and Sacred Heart School is providing the ideal foundation. The experience is allowing me to merge theoretical knowledge with practical work, all within the dynamic setting of a leading residential school in Siliguri.
Looking ahead, I hope to:
Become more proficient in my work
Refine my communication skills further
Take on new challenges that contribute to my professional growth
Additionally, I plan to pursue further studies to deepen my understanding of management and administration. Higher education will help me enhance my skills and open more opportunities for career growth in the education sector.
Every day at Sacred Heart School brings new lessons, and I’m learning to embrace each one with enthusiasm. It’s a journey of growth, learning, and purpose—and I couldn’t be more excited for what lies ahead.
