At Sacred Heart School, Siliguri, a progressive residential school affiliated with ICSE and ISC, we believe that experiential learning helps students understand concepts more deeply and meaningfully. On 8 November, our Class 6 students had the opportunity to take part in such an enriching experience during their visit to Ishan Snax Pvt. Ltd., Siliguri.
The group of 35 students was accompanied by teachers Ms. Nivedita Singha, Ms. Shivani Giri, and Mrs. Preeti Chettri. From the moment they entered the facility, students were fascinated by the scale, precision, and teamwork required to produce something as simple yet beloved as a packet of chips. The tour began with an introduction to the raw material processing area where students observed how potatoes are selected, washed, sorted, and prepared for production. Their curiosity grew as they watched the slicing, frying, and seasoning stages, seeing each step come together to create the final product.
The packaging line stood out as one of the highlights of the visit. Students were amazed by the seamless coordination between machinery and skilled workers that ensures each packet is sealed, checked, and prepared for distribution. Witnessing the process in real time helped them understand how science, technology, and quality control work together in modern manufacturing.
This educational tour offered more than just a look at how snacks are made. It encouraged students to appreciate the importance of innovation, hygiene, teamwork, precision, and industrial efficiency. Many students shared that the visit helped them connect lessons from science and social studies to real-life applications. They also enjoyed seeing how different departments within a factory collaborate to create a product that reaches thousands of households every day.
