Sacred Heart School, Siliguri marked India’s Independence Day with a vibrant celebration of patriotism, talent and learning, bringing together students from across the school for a day filled with performances, demonstrations and exhibitions.
The occasion was graced by Lieutenant Colonel Bhupendra Pal Singh, Military Secretary, Headquarters 111 Area, as the Chief Guest. The celebration reflected the enthusiasm of the students while providing them with meaningful opportunities to express themselves, work collaboratively and put their learning into practice.
Celebrating the Spirit of Independence
The Independence Day programme was filled with energy and patriotic fervour as students participated in dance and singing competitions, presenting a range of performances that reflected their creativity, confidence and love for the nation.
The school’s NCC Cadets added a strong sense of discipline and pride to the occasion with their March Past and Drum Drill. Their synchronised movements and coordination showcased the dedication and teamwork developed through their training.
A Karate Demonstration further added to the programme, with students displaying strength, focus, discipline and confidence. Together, the performances created a fitting tribute to the spirit of Independence Day, bringing together artistic expression, physical discipline and national pride.
Exploring Commerce Beyond the Classroom
Adding an academic dimension to the celebrations, the Senior School hosted a Commerce Exhibition, where students brought concepts from Business Studies, Accountancy and Economics to life through interactive activities, games and demonstrations.
Rather than simply presenting textbook concepts, students took the lead in explaining their ideas and engaging visitors with their exhibits. The exhibition encouraged them to apply their classroom knowledge, communicate effectively and explore how Commerce connects with the world around them.
The experience demonstrated the value of learning through application, where students could explore, discuss and put concepts into practice.
Exploring English Through Stories, Performance and Play
The Primary Wing hosted an English Exhibition, creating a lively space where young learners explored the language through storytelling, performance and creative activities.
The exhibition featured story-based skits, an English puppet show, a play centred around books, interactive games and a musical recitation. Through these varied presentations, students experienced English as more than a subject, using the language to perform, communicate and express their ideas.
The activities also provided the young learners with an opportunity to build their confidence on stage while developing their creativity and enthusiasm for language. Teachers played an important role in guiding the students throughout the preparation and presentations.
Learning, Expressing and Celebrating Together
The three events came together to make Independence Day at Sacred Heart School a celebration that extended well beyond a traditional ceremonial programme. Patriotism found expression through music and performance, discipline through the NCC and Karate demonstrations, and learning through the Commerce and English Exhibitions.
For the students, the day offered valuable opportunities to take centre stage, work together, communicate their ideas and learn through experience.
As the school community came together to celebrate the nation, the occasion also celebrated something equally important: the curiosity, confidence, creativity and potential of its young learners.
